F.A.Q

How much will it cost me to make all-grain beer?

If you are just talking about ingredients, a 5-gallon batch (enough for 48 12-oz. bottles) may cost between $15-$40 or more, depending on the various specialty ingredients used. But, for less than a dollar a bottle, you can make the best beer you've ever tasted.

What are the main ingredients?

The main ingredients are malted barley, hops, yeast, and water. Various flavoring and fining agents may be added, depending on the recipe.

How long does it take?

It will take at least 6-7 hours (but more like 8-9) to do all the processes correctly. I've done it right after work if I have everything ready and it is an easy recipe, but, you're more than likely to enjoy the process on a weekend or vacation day.

What special equipment will I need?

If you have a basic brewing kit (around $50), the only other equipment you may need is a lauter tun, a mill to crack the grain, and a large pot (at least 7 gallons) foor a "full boil."

Where do I find the materials?

You can buy from local brewing supply outlets and from online providers. See our vendor support page for more information.

Do I need to be an expert?

No. This site is designed to walk you through all the steps of the process. Once you have the proper equipment and ingredients, you can begin.
